Women’s Wellness Workshop
Menstrual and Reproductive Health
Saturday 17th August – 1.00pm – 4.30pm
Throughout a woman’s life, her day to day sense of wellness can be profoundly affected by her menstrual cycle. Hormonal imbalances can see her facing many physical and emotional challenges such as fatigue, mood swings and pain. Yoga and Ayurveda provide us with self-care tools that, applied appropriately, can help women maintain physical balance and emotional stability, throughout their lives.
While its not common to be viewed as such, the menstrual cycle is a gift, one that is unique to the female gender. Its purpose not only to prepare the body for conception and pregnancy but, also to be viewed as a monthly cleanse where women have a unique chance to renew their bodies every month.
When we begin to treat our menstrual cycle as a friend, rather than foe, not only do we effect our menstrual health, we become more empowered as women.
During this workshop we will look at promoting menstrual and reproductive health through the lens of yoga and Ayurveda. We will also look at these sister sciences as a therapeutic response to some common challenges faced by women during their reproductive years, including:
- common menstrual disorders such as PMS, endometriosis etc.
- the effect of stress on the hormonal system.
- useful asanas and pranayama.
- supporting a healthy pregnancy & postnatal yoga.
- mind/body practices that support women facing fertility challenges.
- lifestyle and self-care practices.
Postures, pranayama and meditation practices that are beneficial in promoting physical & physiological health and emotional well-being will be discussed, as well as those that are contraindicated during certain times – pregnancy, menstruation etc. Also included will be some simple lifestyle advice from the ancient science of Ayurveda.
Suitable for absolute beginners and experienced practitioners alike, this workshop will also be useful for yoga teachers wanting to expand their knowledge in the area of women’s health in order to best assist their students
