200 hour Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga for Svastha Teacher Training & Personal Wellbeing Program

We are offering two formats for our yoga teacher training in 2022. Part time study in Auckland January – June, 2022  or 3-week intensive in Rarotonga May/June, 2022.

Our 200-hour yoga teacher training program qualifies you as a yoga teacher and gives you a deep understanding of how to teach with sensitivity to students of all ages, abilities, stages of life, and gender identification.

By the end of the program, you will have a profound insight into the methodologies and practicalities of facilitating optimal health through yoga, the ability to be a skillful, holistic teacher, and the tools to transform your own practice.

Recognised by both Yoga Alliance and Yoga New Zealand, this yoga teacher training takes place over five months and includes:

  • Five four-day intensives

  • Online practice and discussion

  • Personal mentoring sessions

  • Assignments

The Svastha Yoga Teacher Training program is designed to be manageable to complete around other commitments and a worthwhile financial and time investment. Over the course you will study:

  • Practice & theory of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation & Yogic Mindfulness

  • Yoga as a holistic practice for well-being body & mind

  • Yoga psychology – a study of the Yogasūtras of Patañjali, applying the ancient wisdom of yoga to modern living

  • Functional anatomy & movement skills

  • Nervous system function & balance, including concepts from the latest research in neuroscience (Polyvagal Theory etc.)

  • Skills in teaching group classes & one-to-one sessions safely, effectively & inclusively

  • Conscious communication for yoga teaching

  • An introduction to the ancient science of Ayurveda

Teacher Barbara Coley is an experienced yoga therapist and a dedicated yoga practitioner of many decades. Her mission is to educate yoga practitioners in the art and science of sound yoga practices, so that they can help themselves and others on a path to personal well-being and a life practice.

Our program is open to anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge in yoga and there are no formal prerequisites to enrolling, but we suggest you have been practising yoga in some form for at least 12 months.

Graduates of our 200-hour program then have a pathway to 350-hour registration, with Yoga New Zealand (Level 2 Teaching qualification) by completing three 50-hour continuing education programs at Svastha Yoga.

Program Format & 2022 Training Dates

1) 6 x 3-day Group Intensives: Saturday – Monday 8.00am – 5.00pm daily

  • 22nd – 24th January
  • 19th – 21st February
  • 19th – 21st March
  • 23rd – 25th April (includes ANZAC Day)
  • 14th – 16th May
  • 18th – 20th June

2) Monthly Online Group Practice & Discussion Sessions (via Zoom)

4 x 3-hour online classes consisting of a 60-minute practice, followed by discussion/lecture.

Each class runs from 8.00am – 11.00am

  • Sunday 13th February
  • Sunday 6th March
  • Sunday 3rd April
  • Sunday 1st May

3) One-to-One mentoring

  • 3 sessions throughout the program at mutually convenient timing.

4) Directed Home Study and Assignments

  • approx 1.5 – 2 hours per week

TBA – dependent on numbers – will be in the Central Auckland area.

Course Fees

Earlybird – $3,495 payable one month prior to start date (includes deposit)
Regular – $3,895 payable prior to program start date (includes deposit)

Note: A $500 deposit is required on registration. This reserves your place in the programme and is considered your committment to attend, therefore, is not refundable

Refund Policy

  • Full refund of monies paid, less non refundable deposit, for withdrawal prior to the earlybird date
  • 25% refund of monies paid, less non-refundable deposit, for withdrawal after early bird date and prior to the commencement of the program
  • No refunds after the program commencement

Course Material

You will be provided with a comprehensive training manual and additional handouts to help you assimilate the information presented in the program. There is no additional cost for this material.

Recommended texts will be discussed throughout the program, however, are not essential.

Faculty:

Barbara Coley is an extremely experienced and skilled yoga teacher with a passion for educating practitioners and yoga teachers in the art of sound yoga practices.

Barbara has been practising yoga since 1992 and teaching since 2007. She has deepened her understanding of yoga through extensive studies with A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan of Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda. She has also studied online with a number of renowned international teachers specialising in various fields including Vina Shah, Jean Campbell, Jivana Heyman, Amber Karnes, Tom Myers, Marlysa Sullivan, Amy Wheeler, Dianne Bondy, Tiffany Cruickshank, and more.

Barbara has studied Yoga Therapy intensively [since 2010] Dr Ganesh Mohan, and has been a practicing Certified Yoga Therapist since 2016. She is certified with with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Yoga Australia and Yoga New Zealand.

Barbara’s approach to teaching yoga is to encourage her students to move and breathe in a way that is both functional and easeful, encouraging mind-body integration, and cultivating nervous system balance and physical health.

In her role as an educator, Barbara promotes ‘mental health awareness’ as a fundamental skill necessary for all yoga teachers to embrace. She encourages teachers & trainee teachers to question dogmatic approaches to teaching methods and alignment cues and facilitates an investigation of functional anatomy & movement skills.

Barbara believes that yoga should be inclusive and accessible to all and promotes a sense of community in her classes and in her trainings.
