Level 2 Yoga Teacher Training: 350 hour Diploma in Yoga Studies

The 350 hour Diploma in Yoga Studies program is a continuation and expansion of the 200 hour Teaching Foundations and Personal Wellbeing Program.

This program is perfect for practitioners who are wanting to understand yoga on a deeper level than just practicing asana and gain confidence and skills in teaching group classes and individual sessions. It contains a strong focus on yoga psychology and philosophy as well as presenting sound information in asana, mudras & bandhas, pranayama, meditation, sound & mantra and teaching methodology & more.

You will be taken on a journey through classical hatha yoga, inspired by the teachings of Krishnamacharya, enriched with insights from modern science and current movement research. Thus, ensuring that you are equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach yoga in a modern day setting without losing the essence of the practice.

The aim is to provide a thought-provoking course, which actively encourages students to question current teaching methods and alignment cues. Trainees will be encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of functional anatomy and how to use this understanding to foster a healthy approach to movement.

Diploma in Yoga Studies 350 hour

A deeper dive into the wisdom contained in the Yogasutras of Patanjali, will lead you on a journey of self-discovery and growth, opening doors to a truly integrated way of living.

This program includes a module on Teaching Yoga to Women, an important consideration as this is the greater population yoga teachers encounter in their classes. As a Certified Yoga Therapist, Barbara will also give you an understanding of teaching therapeutic yoga so that your classes are welcoming and inclusive.

A large part of this program is the nourishment and support you will receive in developing your personal practice which is key to becoming an effective teacher.

Combined with your evolving practice, the knowledge and skills you gain in this program will provide a solid platform from which to teach others with awareness, compassion, sensitivity and clarity.

This training will provide you with a solid grounding in yoga practice, yoga theory and yoga teaching.

  • Practice & theory of asana, pranayama, mudras & bandhas, meditation & yogic mindfulness
  • Hatha Yoga of Krishnmacharya applied to a modern yoga setting
  • Functional anatomy as applies to yoga practice
  • Yoga psychology – how to apply the ancient wisdom of the yogasutras to modern living.
  • Insights from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Bhagavad Gita
  • Skills in teaching group classes and private sessions safely, effectively and inclusively
  • Skills in sequencing and adapting practices to suit different themes & audiences
  • An introduction to the ancient science of Ayurveda
  • An introduction to yoga therapy
  • Separate module on Yoga for Women
  • Developing your own personalised yoga practice with guidance

In addition, you will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of yourself and how to positively influence your own health and state of mind through yoga practice, yoga psychology, and lifestyle advice from Ayurveda
  • An understanding that yoga is much more than asana
  • A platform from which to continue with yoga therapy studies

1) Group Intensives:

Part 1: 2 x 4-day intensives plus 3 x 3-day intensives – 8.00am – 6.00pm daily
  • 14th – 17th February (Friday – Monday)
  • 28th – 30th March (Saturday – Monday)

  • 27th – 29th  June (Saturday – Monday)
  • 21st – 24th August (Friday – Monday)


Part 2: 5 x weekend intensives (Saturday & Sunday) – 8.00am – 5.00pm daily
  • 12th – 13th September
  • 10th – 11th October
  • 7th – 8th November
  • 12th – 13th December
  • 9th – 10th January 2021

2) Online Classes

5 x 2 hour sessions (dates to be confirmed)

3) One to One mentoring sessions

8 sessions x 60-90 minutes

Program Fees, Certification & Assessment

It is recommended that you have had a consistent yoga practice for a minimum of one year prior to attending this program. Due to the depth of material and personal comittment required, a certainty in your desire to attend this program is a necessity.

It is also recommended that, wherever possible, you attend a number of Barbara’s classes to ensure that you have an affinity with the approach of Svastha Yoga New Zealand and Barbara’s teaching.

Assessment & Completion

Participants are required to attend at least 90% of training sessions to successfully graduate from this program.

Certification and Continuing Education

Graduates will be provided with a Certificate of Completion and may go on to register with Yoga Alliance and/or Yoga New Zealand

This program is currently being assessed for registration with Yoga New Zealand for Level 2 Teaching Registration, and Yoga Alliance 300 hour certification. It is expected both registrations will be granted by December 2019.

Costs involved in registration with Yoga Alliance and/or Yoga Australia are at the graduate’s own expense.

Barbara Coley - CIAYT, E-RYT500

Barbara Coley started practising yoga in 1992. At the time she held a senior management position and was instantly inspired by the way yoga helped her to maintain equilibrium in such a demanding role.

Over the years Barbara practiced and attended workshops in Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. However, her practice and understanding of yoga changed and deepened considerably when in 2006, she attended a 10-week training program in India with her teachers and mentors A. G. Mohan and Indra Mohan of Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda.

This was a very transformative period in Barbara’s life during which, she was struggling with low mood; this opportunity to commence her studies in yoga and in particular, yoga psychology, on a deeper level started her on a journey of self-discovery and healing. It was at this time that yoga became an integral part of her life and with the support and encouragement of Indra Mohan, she was inspired to the share the practice with others on her return to New Zealand.

Barbara commenced her studies in Yoga Therapy with the Mohans’ son, Dr Ganesh Mohan, in 2010. After completing her training and practicum Barbara was certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists in 2016. 

Barbara presents accredited Yoga Teacher Training and Professional Development Programs and also teaches the Svastha Yoga Therapy Program in New Zealand.

Barbara owned and managed a successful yoga studio in Auckland for 9 years however, in 2016, made the decision to give up teaching studio classes and now runs a private yoga therapy practice and teaches small general yoga & yoga therapy classes from her home studio in Grey Lynn. This enables her to focus her attention on the areas she is most passionate about – personalised yoga, yoga therapy & yoga education.

Barbara attends programs with the Mohans on an annual basis to further deepen her understanding of yoga and is forever grateful to have fallen into the lap of the most knowledgeable teachers and practitioners of yoga alive today.
