About Svastha Yoga
Barbara Coley of Svastha Yoga offers small & friendly group classes, private yoga instruction, and yoga therapy from her home yoga studio in Grey Lynn, Auckland.
Svastha yoga is an integrated and personalised approach, where students are supported with practices that meet their individual needs. The focus is on functional movement combined with breathing and mindfulness to cultivate a healthy body and a calm mind.
This is a simple yet profound practice that meets each student exactly where they are and facilitates positive change, whether that be by improving physical strength & flexibility, improving the function of bodily systems (respiratory, digestive etc.), or becoming calmer and clearer in the mind.
Barbara prefers to teach outside of the typical yoga studio environment and limits her class numbers to a maximum of five students. This ensures that each person in her class is supported with a practice that is relevant to their needs in general, as well on that particular day.
Barbara also meets students on a one-to-one basis, guiding them in developing a personal practice. These private yoga lessons are vital for anyone wishing to integrate yoga into their life, or where they have specific needs such as an injury or post-surgery rehabilitation etc.
Whether a personal session or group class, Svastha Yoga encourages an environment where you can tune into where you are today, listen to your own body and breath, and practice in a manner that makes sense to you.
With a regular Svastha yoga practice, you can expect to see improved movement & postural patterns, agility and strength. You will also notice more contentment and peace of mind, clarity of thought and the ability to maintain equanimity in daily encounters.
“Svastha has allowed an easiness in both my body and mind that extends well beyond the time in class and I could not ask for more than that.” ~ Fiona Gordon
I’ve been practising yoga since 1992 and am passionate about its power to transform our lives.
After some years attending yoga classes and occasional workshops, in 2006 I was fortunate enough to find myself in India attending a program with, my now teachers and mentors, A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan. It was during this 2-month experience that my understanding of yoga deepened to a point, where it became an integral part of my life and I was inspired to share the practice with others.
I managed and taught from a studio in Auckland for the following 9 years, however, in 2016, I made the decision to give up teaching studio classes and now teach small classes from my home studio where I am able to focus my attention on the areas I am most passionate about – personalised yoga, yoga therapy and yoga education.

Fundamentally, yoga is a practice of self-care. It has sustained and inspired me through life’s inevitable ups and downs and it is my passion to share the practice with others so that they too may integrate the benefits of a sound, effective practice into their own lives.
I am eternally grateful for the support and guidance of my teachers A. G. Mohan and Indra Mohan, their son Ganesh and daughter Nitya.
